The
original scheme, ‘Double Exposure’, was set up
in 1993 by photographer Sandra Jacobs to promote cultural
and artistic exchange between Britain and Israel through the
medium of photography. During its first five years, awards
were given to young British and Israeli photographers and
artists, enabling them to spend a month in each other’s
countries, explore themes of interest, acquaint themselves
with a foreign lifestyle and culture and produce a body of
work. The works created have been presented each year in complimentary
exhibitions held in Israel and the UK.
In 1999 the scheme become tripartite, involving British, Israeli
and Palestinian artists, under the new title ‘Multi-Exposure’.
The resulting exhibition, ‘Exile’, toured from
London to Manchester and Tel-Aviv. The show was to have been
exhibited in a Palestinian venue at the end of the year 2000,
but the situation became so fraught that this was obviously
not possible.
Multi-Exposure is organised by artists for artists. The scheme
has charitable status and is funded from a combination of
private and public sources. This is an independent project
open to all regardless of religious, racial or cultural background.
In 2007 our focus changed from promoting artistic endeavours to the support of groups in the community dealing with social issues and civil rights .
